Recently, both in the world and in Russia, the fate of polystyrene looks very sad. It all started with a general ban on the use of this polymer in food packaging. Now attempts are being made to ban disposable plastic products (i.e. dishes), most of which are also made from PS.
The construction industry is still the main consumer of polystyrene, but the new ambitious construction project is not expected in Russia, as in previous years. Fortunately, there is a stabilization of production volumes in the segment of thermal insulation materials, as well as some there is also positive dynamics in the future. But in this segment, polystyrene is also under attack of competing materials.
Due to the fact that the consumption in key segments declines, the market shrinks sharply and dramatically. In order to stay afloat, it is critically important to the converters are not only to orient themselves, but also to reorient, i.e. look for the entrances to the new areas. Perhaps the industry will survive on account of the household appliances, electrical engineering, toys. In the immediate future – it may be 3D printing. Feedstock producers must promptly provide converters with the raw materials of the required quality. What is the scenario for market development? What to expect for the market players?
