The situation in the Russian market of gas cylinders today is critical: it is short of equipment supply; existing cylinders need replacement, as they do not always meet safety and quality requirements. The significant part of cylinders in use are violating the standards of Rosteсhnadzor and are actually in poor condition.
There are only a few producers of gas cylinders in Russia, while the demand for industrial gases is increasing annually, and high-pressure cylinders continue to be the most common, popular and versatile container type. Their transportation is possible with any kind of transport, but the weight of the cylinder and cargo handling costs significantly affect the final price for supplied gas. Cost calculations suggest that despite higher cost, cylinders produced by foreign manufacturers are winning the demand: the weight is less, the volume and working pressure are higher. Therefore, logistics costs are minimized, and such cylinders can hold twice as much gas as those locally produced according to technical requirements unchanged since 1973.
According to the regulation by Rosteсhnadzor dated 25 March 2014, the cylinders older than 20 years cannot be used further. However, the age of the cylinders park of the most of Russian enterprises exceeds that limit. In the nearest future, companies plan to replace the equipment, but will this lead to a shortage in the local market and the consequent rise in production cost?
We believe that the development of local production today is impossible without government support. Only in this case, cylinders made in Russia will be able to compete with foreign production in price and in technical characteristics.
