At present, the majority of Russian companies in the chlorine alkali industry are increasing the output of chlorine required for production of PVC, and the volumes of caustic soda production are growing proportionally. Recent unscheduled outage of one of the largest Russian plants has contributed to a temporary balance in the local demand and supply for caustic soda. However, this balance will not last long, as the restart of the plant will bring back the oversupply in the market, with export remaining the only option. But in current economic realities, the feasibility of export should be studied with scrutiny.
