The main Conference topic this year is trading of all types of mineral fertilizers through the commodity exchange.
In general, the idea is not new: the first attempt of launching commodity exchange trade was initiated by Russian fertilizer companies back in 2007, unsuccessfully though. The time has come to do a «second attempt», now with support from the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia. This government agency considers that the exchange trade will help the government regulate the market more effectively, while the consumers will obtain unbiased source of information for contracting. The first trade session is scheduled for December this year at SPIMEX.
Is the Russian fertilizer market ready for exchange trade? Will this improve the transparency of market operations? What are the protection mechanisms against resellers that need to be elaborated in advance? Are the consumers interested in exchange trading? How will the liquid trade flow be achieved? What will be the correlation between exchange prices and the local price cap? We suggest that these and other questions be discussed at the «Mineral Fertilizers 2017» Conference.
