The NGV fuel, which has long been talked about but never actively introduced in Russia, has now won the support from the top public person: President Putin officially announced the natural gas as a priority fuel for his country. According to his statement, it is necessary to pay increased attention to the environmental friendliness of transport, and natural gas is the most suitable type of fuel for Russia. Apart from environment protection, the issue of cost and availability is also important: the richest reserves of natural gas in Russia should be considered. Thus, the prerequisites for success are in place. What is it that still prevents the achievement?
Each and every year, the issue of infrastructure remains the most pressing one: the lack of NGV stations is a decisive factor for consumers. Put together with the complexities related to registration of the retrofitted car, this scares people away. Therefore the ‘pioneers’ in NGV are public utilities and municipal transport. Will the presidential support assist in changing the situation? We suggest that this be discussed at the Conference.
